Green Lantern Featured At WonderCon

Official Press Release from Warner Bros. Pictures:

“GREEN LANTERN” SHINES BRIGHT AT WONDERCON

Stars of the Upcoming Film—Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, Peter Sarsgaard—Kick Off the Weekend and the Super Hero’s Multi-Platform Presence at the Con

BURBANK, CA, March 7, 2011 – Fans attending on Friday, April 1st, the first day of WonderCon, will be treated to a special “Green Lantern” talent signing and panel featuring stars of the upcoming Warner Bros. Pictures feature film: Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively and Peter Sarsgaard.  The signing begins at 4 p.m., followed by the panel discussion at 5.

The highly anticipated “Green Lantern” movie, in theatres on June 17, 2011, will be the first live-action feature film to star the popular DC Comics character.  The film relates the origin story of alter ego Hal Jordan (Reynolds), a test pilot and the first human chosen to wear the ring that provides him his superpowers.

Following the opening day panel, Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps will have a deep and diverse presence throughout the weekend due to the combined efforts of DC Entertainment (DCE) and the various divisions of Warner Bros. Entertainment, including Warner Home Video (WHV), Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment (WBIE) and Warner Bros. Consumer Products (WBCP).

WHV will present the World Premiere of the Blu-ray and DVD feature “Green Lantern: Emerald Knights” on Friday evening in the Esplanade Ballroom, immediately followed by a panel discussion featuring filmmakers and voice cast members.  Panelists will also take part in an autograph session on Saturday.  The all new DC Universe Animated Original Movie weaves six interlocking stories of the Green Lantern Corps’ rich mythology around preparations for an attack by an ancient enemy.

Also on Friday, DC Comics will host a panel about the Green Lantern comic books and the 2011 War of the Green Lanterns crossover event.  The DC booth will host Green Lantern-themed signings and giveaways throughout the weekend.

WBIE and DCE will showcase “Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters,” an action-adventure videogame that will be available in conjunction with the theatrical release of “Green Lantern.”  Throughout the Con, visitors to the DC Comics booth will be able to get hands-on time with the game that delivers an immersive experience for Green Lantern fans of all ages.

WBCP’s worldwide licensing program for the highly anticipated “Green Lantern” film has already taken the industry by storm.  Product manufacturers around the world have come together to capture and unleash the power of Green Lantern, who lit the way at this year’s Toy Fair, with master toy licensee Mattel bringing to life a comprehensive toy line inspired by the upcoming film.  Visitors at WonderCon will get a sneak peek of the toy line, along with the opportunity to be “chosen” to win some of the popular products, long before they hit retail shelves.

All this and more begins with the “Green Lantern” signing at 4 p.m. and panel at 5 p.m. on Friday, April 1, 2011.  WonderCon opens the doors to the main floor at noon.  The event runs all weekend, through Sunday, April 3rd, at the Moscone Center in San Francisco.  Go to http://www.comic-con.org/wc/ for tickets to the “Green Lantern” opening day panel and for information about all of the Warner Bros.- and DC Entertainment-related events.

Fan Art Friday

Since there is yet to be a theatrical poster, even a teaser one, I decided to put up this fan made poster. It's simple and lets people know Green Lantern is coming up. Would be nice for movie-goers to see some sort of poster as they walk through the halls of the theatre. I guess I will just imagine this for now as I walk out of Rango.

Zorex from the SHH Forums made this one. You can find a larger version of the image here.

He Never Got The Ring

DC's upcoming crossover event, Flashpoint, gives us a changed universe due to important events being altered. Today we got our first look at Hal's alteration during the event. The Source debuted a cover to one of the issues with the headline, "He Never Got The Ring". This should be interesting as the story unfolds. The creative team is listed below.

FLASHPOINT: HAL JORDAN
Covers: Rags Morales
Writer: Adam Schlagman
Art: Ben Olive

Two New Green Lantern Images

I really don't consider this newsworthy but it is still worth a look. In addition to the interview with Ryan Reynolds, Empire has two new photos from the upcoming space adventure. We get Hal and Carol having drinks at a bar and another of Hal alone looking hesitant to pace the ring on his finger. It's okay Hal, that one doesn't mean you're getting married.

Green Lantern: Emerald Knights Slipcover

Thanks to Blog of Oa for clarifying. This isn't the actual artwork for the Blu-ray case itself but just the slip-cover that goes on the outside, encasing the box. With all of DC's recent animated films following the same route I imagine that Hal is popped out a little bit and all the characters surrounding him in green will be a nice shiny foil. Is there anyway WB can release this next week?

Ryan Reynolds Comments On CGI Costume

The latest issue of Empire has a big feature on Green Lantern. I haven't picked up the issue myself but the magazines official website has snippets of an interview with Ryan Reynolds. He mentions the difficulties with doing Deadpool and tries to ease the unruly fanboys who hate the CGI suit:

“It has to be virtual rather than spandex,” says Reynolds, wearing his grey sensor suit. “This is a suit from an alien planet.”

“It’s not The Dark Knight – I don’t put the suit on and my voice drops several octaves,” adds Reynolds, unfazed by the absence of green tights. “The suit is powered specifically on his will, his emotion, his creativity and his imagination. I love that.”

“Everything Hal creates are images from his childhood,” he goes on. “Or things fuelled specifically from his own mind.”

I'm not sure what the jab at The Dark Knight was for, it seems a bit out of place. Being a huge fan of the character, I was skeptical when I learned that they would be shooting with a suit entirely rendered in CGI with no tangible uniform for Reynolds to put on. The first image was released on the front of an issue of Entertainment Weekly in July last year and the photo still didn't give me a glowing impression towards it. After seeing it in the trailer and in action my fears were put to rest though.

I know many people still complain about it looking too fake and dumb but I honestly don't see any other way to do it. This is a suit created by the ring from Hal's mind. It engulfs his body at will. The footage in the trailer wasn't the finished product, I am positive of that. Hold off until the next trailer where improvements will have been made and then you can formulate a more reasonable opinion.
