Austin Texas Is Green Lantern

Green Lantern has vacated his home in Coast City to be the official hero for Austin, Texas. The cities news site, KAXN, is reporting that Mayor Lee Leffingwell has cited the town as 'Green Lantern'.

In past public statements for New York, Chicago and Los Angeles those cities were named as Superman, Batman, and The Flash so its only fitting that another large American city takes the mantle of the Emerald Warrior to complete the big four of DC Comics'. 

Mayor Leffingwell had this to say about the decision on choosing Green Lantern:

"Austin is the Green Lantern," said Austin Mayor Lee Leffingwell. "We are a city without fear. We are a city that can create anything we can visualize, through sheer force of will. We are a city with a special charge to shine a light into the darkness and lead the way to a new and better day."

War Of The Green Lanterns

Pre-Order Green Lantern Movie Masters

Big Bad Toy Store has pre-orders up for Mattel's line of Green Lantern Movie Masters. There will be 12 figures in the total line but the site only as 6 at the moment. Get them while you can, but be nice and leave enough for other fans as well.

Weekly Character Bio

Yet another new feature we're adding on Welcome To Coast City is character bio's. This is to give you a glimpse into the ever expanding world of the Green Lantern Corps; it's members, villains, locations, and other various items related.

First up will be Mogo, the planet that is a Green Lantern. Mogo is a sentient or "living" planet. When it was desired, its affiliation with Green Lantern Corps is marked by its foliage that was arranged into a green band circling the body with the standard Corps lantern symbol. Mogo is also responsible for guiding the Green Lantern rings to new sentient beings after their hosts die. At the same time, Mogo has allowed alien races to live on its surface and has been willing to change its climatic conditions to suit them. These inhabitants of Mogo may not always know that their home is alive and watching them.

Mogo will be featured in the upcoming Emerald Knights animated movie with a story based around the famous "Mogo Doesn't Socialize" piece by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons. Take a portal over to the Green Lantern Wiki page and learn more about the planet. 

Cover Countdown: 114 Days Until Green Lantern

The Green Lantern movie is approaching fast and what better way to countdown the days than with the cover of the issues? This idea originally came from the Superherohype Forums with a very dedicated user named dnno1 supplying all the great covers from Vol. 2 of the Green Lantern comic series. Some of the volumes aren't up to these higher numbers yet, but as the days get lower I will post each available cover.

Issue #114 of Vol. 2 is pictured left and Issue #114 of Vol. 3 is pictured right.

Fan Art Friday

That's not a typo you see in the article title. I'm quite aware that it's Thursday but I couldn't wait until tomorrow to show this gorgeous image you see above. Welcome To Coast City will be featuring a piece of fan made art relating to all things Green Lantern each Friday following this installment.

Over at the Superherohype Forums a lot of talented users post up their hard work. I came across the image you see above last night and was blown away by how well it's put together. Hyzak is the creator of this piece. It instantly became the wallpaper for my laptop and Blackberry as well. Emerald Knights Trailer And Sneak Peek

With the release of All Star Superman yesterday, came an exclusive first look (below) at DC's next animated venture, Green Lantern: Emerald Knights. The featurette gave insight on the stories included in the movie and a peek at some of the story boards as well as an image of the Sinestro Corps. The official trailer for Emerald Knights (above) was released through Yahoo! Trailers today and it looks like a very nice companion piece to the movie that follows it.

 Green Lantern: Emerald Knights will be released on Blu-ray, DVD and video on demand on June 7th.

Green Lantern Headlines The MCM Expo

Green Lantern will take a short break from defending the universe for a trip overseas. In what is sure to be a huge promotional event for the Green Lantern film in the foreign market, London's MCM Expo is featuring the Emerald Warrior as their main exhibit. Here is the official press release:

MCM Group are delighted to announce that much-anticipated action-adventure Green Lantern will be the official title sponsor of the next MCM Expo, which takes place at ExCel London on 27-29 May.

Now in its tenth year, MCM Expo is London’s comic con, covering movies, comics, games, anime, television and more. The UK’s premier gathering for all things pop culture, the show is the ideal venue to showcase such a highly anticipated movie with roots in comic books.

Green Lantern stars Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan, along with Blake Lively, Peter Sarsgaard and Mark Strong, and is directed by Martin Campbell (GoldenEye, Casino Royale). The upcoming Warner Bros release, based on the popular and long-running series from DC Comics, is due to hit UK cinemas in June.

As part of MCM Expo, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment will also be showcasing the upcoming Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters videogame, due for release on all formats in the summer.

“We are absolutely delighted that Green Lantern is title sponsor of May’s MCM Expo,” commented show co-organiser Bryan Cooney. “If ever a movie was tailor-made to appeal to our 50,000+ visitors it is Green Lantern, so we’re thrilled that the London MCM Expo is to play a key role in Warner Bros.’ launch of the film and videogame.”

In Brightest Day, With Reese's Cups

Daily Blam picked up another prize with the reveal of Hershey's new Green Lantern promotinal event:
